Photo Submission GuidelinesIn these days of 10 mega pixel and larger digital cameras, one of the unfortunate effects is that photo sizes, if not edited, are HUGE. If you try to e-mail me several photos to post on the web site, the resulting download times, even with a high speed internet connection can be lengthy. On the other hand, if the photos are downsized too much, then the resolution can be too low should the photograph be selected for printing in our annual calendar. So with that in mind, I would like to offer some guidelines for resizing the photos you submit for posting in trip reports or other sections of the Bavorak web site. Please keep in mind that these are only guidelines; they don't necessarily have to be followed to the T... I'll use my camera as an example. At the resolution I normally shoot, the unedited photo sizes come out at 3000 x 2000 pixels, and the typical size of the .jpg file is on the order of 2.5 to 3 megabytes. That is way too large! Resizing the photo to 1500 x 1000 pixels results in a .jpg file of about 0.3 to 0.8 megabytes (depending on the file quality selected when saving the resized file). The resulting resolution is plenty high enough for a calendar, and it's much quicker to e-mail. And although that is still much too big for posting on the web site, I will take care of downsizing it from there. Resizing photos is simple if you have the proper software. There are plenty of applications that will do it, but a good one is IrfanView. And what's even better, it can be downloaded for free at http://www.irfanview.com/. To resize a photo while viewing it in IrfanView, press Ctrl-R, and enter the desired pixel size in either the width or height box (the software will automatically calculate the other one). Thanks for your cooperation. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Bavorak Meeting MinutesThe meeting was held at Wilson’s Café in Posey County on a drizzly cold night. Yes, David Godeke and Rick Sims win the prize for riding their two-wheeled vehicles. Steve reported there were 241 bikes at the Cape Girardeau event, making it a record. There was lots of media coverage, food, and door prizes. Pictures can be found on the Grass Roots web site.David G. reminded members to submit pictures for the web site; hoping for some good fall/early winter pictures for the 2010 Calendar. The Christmas party is planned for the Log Inn, on the usual meeting night, the second Wednesday night of December. It just happens to be December 9, 2009. David G. asked how everyone liked meeting at different places, and all agreed it was good. Steve, el presidente, and Diane, la secretaria/treasurer, reminded the group we need to be thinking about electing new officers. The term is two years, which Steve and Diane have both served. Denny and Linda Richard announced they would reschedule the bonfire at their place for spring…too wet.
It was decided next month’s meeting/eeting would be at the Silver Bell Restaurant in St. Wendel. David G. will call and make reservations. Linda suggested a winter get-a-way, if anyone interested, to Spring Mill State Park. There’s an inn there, with a restaurant, a huge fireplace, and nice surroundings. January 30th was set as the date. She had already checked on rooms, and there were plenty. All interested need to make their own reservations. The phone number is 812-849-4081. (Thanks to Steve, the web site is https://springmillinn.dnr.state.in.us/.) The secretary apologized for not publishing last month’s meeting minutes and thanked Steve for ensuring the word got out about rides and such. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Bavorak Meeting MinutesThe meeting was held at Hornville Tavern. President Steve Shoemaker opened the meeting. He introduced new members, Steve and Jan Johnson, from Evansville, who ride a K1200 LT. Steve discussed the upcoming Moto GP races in Indy. September 19, BMW Open House in Missouri, a group would probably be riding over, more info on that later. Vladimir Roznos informed us about the Moto Guzzi Rally he and Bonnie attended in Wisconsin...230 people, beer, beer, beer, and good Wisconsin cheese. A good time. Next month’s meeting place was discussed. It was decided another Ride to Eeting was in order. A vote was taken and Smitty’s Tavern on Franklin Street in Evansville was determined to be the place. We’ll meet and ride to the meeting, if able. Check the web site for date and time. Denny and Linda Richard proposed a Fall get-together at their place outside Princeton, IN. A date was discussed and decided upon October 17, 2009. More information and directions to follow. Dave Godeke suggested a Saturday trip to the Arts and Crafts Museum in Louisville to view a display of vintage motorcycles there. Date and time to follow. Linda Richard suggested a winter get-away to Spring Mill State Park Inn, end of January or first of February. She will get price information together for a future meeting. No further business…..meeting adjourned. |

Two members showed up at breakfast today on new (to them) motorcycles...Rick Sims on a 2008 BMW F650 X-Challenge, and Chris Hancock on a 2008 Ducati HyperMotard. It had the makings of an excellent photo op. Photography work courtesy of Nature Dave Godeke.

Congratulations to new Bavorak member, Kat Shipp. She proudly announces, "I found myself a rebuilt Kawasaki ZRX1200 as a project bike, and she's gonna be a BEAST when she's done. So expect me to be zipping around with the Beemer guys, not straggling at the back on my 250. Yeehaw! " ![]() |

Hi, If you're getting this, you're on my Bavorak e-mail list. Please, please let me know if you want to be taken off of it. I thought I'd summarize the business of the last couple meetings to keep you up to date. 1/14/09
-Discussion was held about dues. Last year we had voted to count rally fees towards dues for those who attended and helped at the rally. This was discussed again. Dave Edwards proposed we collect $10 per person per calendar year for dues. Diane Hancock seconded and the motion passed. -David Godeke asked that members check the web site and see if there's anything anyone wants taken off. -Much discussion was held regarding whether or not to have a Rally in 2009. A vote was held and it was 9 to 6 in favor of having the rally. At that time, a request was made for a chair person for the rally. No one volunteered. Rally essentially was tabled. Discussion was held about possibly taking a club trip in place of hosting a rally. To be discussed at further meetings. 2/11/09 That's it; let me know if I forgot anything. If you haven't joined us lately, we have a good meal and lots of motorcycle talk, even if we don't have a lot of business! And lots of laughter. Doesn't get any better than that. Diane Hancock |

Hello Gang
Why is it pretty during the week and nasty on Weekends!!! It
must be a alternate universe, aliens, or Jupiter must not be aligned
with Mars. Its the dawning of an age of Aquarius..haha
Now to the news. We are expecting a special guest at our
next meeting. Everyone try to attend I guarantee this is one you
will not want to miss. Our guest has not confirmed his visit but
he is pretty sure he can make it. This is a dealer who
attended BMW North America Dealer Meeting, Seminar...etc etc. He
has agreed to tell us what is new at BMW (Bikes) and will discuss
other BMW related information.
March 25th Saturday evening lets go to the Guerst House for food
and brew. We are celebrating Spring or their beer list. If
interested let me know at the meeting March 8th.
We have our Beemer and Brats Rally Chairman's big thank you to
Dave Edwards and Chris Hancock. There is a rumor they are
planning Pudding Wrestling...but this is not confirmed. I hear
they cant decide between vanilla or chocolate. I prefer Wild
Strawberry with a hint of Cool Whip.
Also our own Chris Hancock will be speaking at our April Meeting.
Also Vlad will have info on Heaven and Hell Run.
See you soon.

| February 1, 2005 | Finally a change for the pallet. A new location for our monthly meeting has been chosen. Until further notice, we will be holding our monthly meeting at Logan's Roadhouse at the Lloyd and Burkhardt. Still on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm. |
| December 16, 2004 | After a tip from Tom Williams concerning Revard BMW, this news source, unlike most others, verified that the rumors about Revard on the internet are indeed true. When contacted by phone this morning, an employee of Revard verified that indeed they had been informed that Revard was closing it's doors by December 24th. However, there is still some hope in that management is in talks with a 'White Knight', (guy with cash), who is interested in discussing taking over the dealership. No matter what happens, I'm sure we all wish the owners and employees well and hope that whatever happens is best for them and their families. |
| December 8, 2004 | One of the most prestigious awards that any mere human may obtain, was bestowed upon our deserving Ex-President, Mike Muensterman. Yes, Mike has won the 'OMGWWIT' award for 2004. Kim Miles gave him a good run for his money with his rendition of 'Sure I Can Pushstart It', but Mike prevailed for his insertion of diesel fuel into his beloved LT. Congratulations Mike. |
| March 20, 2004 | Bad news! Another one of our very own has been injured. While on a trip to Mexico, John Simmons broke his tailbone. This will keep him from riding for awhile. Send him a note to cheer him up if you get a chance. |

From John Simmons, Grassroots BMW
Great news today here at the shop. The new bridge is open. I actually got Dave to close the shop and we all went to go walk across the new bridge for the hoopla. No more soiled underwear while crossing the old one. I hated to tell people from out of town but there were actually log chains welded to beams under the old bridge to hold them up. Pieces often fell from the bottom into the river and in at least one case landed on a boat going by. We were being reassured by the state that none of the pieces that fell off were structural anyway. Right.
I think that Steve Shoemaker
got the credit for being the last person to take a BMW motorcycle over
the old bridge before it closed today. Unfortunately it was
in the back of his truck. So when I rode it over
yesterday, while testing it before Steve picked it up, I must
have been the last Beemer. I failed in my attempt to
be the first BMW over the new one. We got out the
jumper cables and three nearly empty cans of ether. Stole
some gas from Jeff Hutson's GS's gas tank and after a plug changing
and some cranking fired up my old 1960 sidecar rig. I roared out
across the lot to get there to be first BMW across. It
felt great. At least it was great until the sidecar broke an
axle. It was even less great when the wheel passed me
by heading on to the big event without me. Just for the
record it was not a German made axle. By the time we got
it wrestled back into the building with no wheel on the hack I was too
worn out to worry about it. BUT, I was the first 1994 Dodge
white cargo van over it.
Wish I could figure a way to
make the holiday party but I have 200 pork butts to cook. I can
only cook fifty at a time so it is going to take four days this week
to do it. Grassroots may not be the biggest shop, but this week
it will be the best smelling one.

| July 26, 2003 | Because of sickness and everyone's busy summer schedule it was a light turnout for Quigley's party, but like all of Quig's partys it was a lot of fun. One Coca-Cola and John Walters is breaking furniture. We'll have to watch him from now on. A special attendee was Gator, a guy who makes his living traveling with a trailer full of airhead parts from rally to rally. What a great source of stories and airhead knowledge. I want to give a special thanks to Cindy Shoemaker for saying to my wife, "I didn't even know Kim was married". Be looking for the payback Cindy. Great decorations and a tour of Quig's shop made the venue extra special. Thirteen of us, including Gator and Janet from Florida, enjoyed that famous Quigley hospitality at the Tiki Bar and a dinner of dogs and burgers on the grill. Lots of BMW stories and fun. Thanks for a great evening Jim and Elaine. |
| July 24, 2003 | More web site changes and welcome a new member, Rick Wooley. Take a look at the Roster page and drop him a line of welcome. |
| July 9, 2003 | Congratulations and best wishes to Chris Hancock and Diane Webster on the announcement of their wedding. I know they came to the club as a couple, but it's still kind of neat to have two Bavorak Riders getting married. Drop them a line to wish them well at chancock@evansville.net . |
| June 12, 2003 | Tired of being turned down or having to pay a high 'penalty' price at the dealer for mounting and balancing those tires you bought by mail order. Dave G. has a friend that can do the job for you. Call Don DuVall at 853-2073. |
| June 12, 2003 | Check out all the new happenings on the calendar. It's hard to believe we're only one year old. |
