Report and Pictures - Almost Rally, Rally - May 4, 2003 |
| Well, the second annual "Almost Rally, Rally" has
come and gone. If you were unable to attend, you missed a wonderful
time. Although the weather was not as kind as it could have been, we
still had 28 bikes and over 50 people attend. Evidently the ride
portion was divided into two routes this year, with 27 bikes opting to
take the 'A' route and only Dave Godeke choosing the 'B' route. We
would all like to congratulate Dave on his perseverance in traveling the
'B' route. Although longer and wetter, Dave still managed to return
to the shelter for some of the delicious food enjoyed by all.
Helmets off to all the ladies and gents that provided the chow. Hot dogs, bratwurst and polish sausages dominated the fair with some of the most outstanding baked beans, sauer kraut and other side dishes this side of heaven. And just when you could eat no more, you were faced with a desert table lovingly prepared by Local 442 of Chocoholics Anonymous. So many choices, and all of them good. We had a mountain of prizes to give away this year, and if you didn't win one you were in the minority. Some families, i.e. the Shoemakers, will be able to skip Christmas altogether this year. Thanks to all the sponsors for their generosity. A special thanks to the guys from both the Louisville and Grassroots BMW dealerships who supplied prizes and even attended our little event. We know they put in a hard ride for such a short event and we appreciate it. Well, time to start planning for next year. How can we improve? Should we go to a full weekend Rally? Should we contract for camping? Did you like the shelterhouse we used this year? How do we keep from losing Dave? All questions to think about as we prepare for the 2004 Rally. Submitted by:
